H-Wave Recommendations from an NBA Trainer
Meet Arnie Kander – Vice President of Performance & Wellness for the Orlando Magic – whose path to the NBA began in an unexpected place: the dance studio. Trained as a classical dancer and later earning a degree in physical therapy, Arnie blended movement artistry with clinical rigor to shape a career at the highest level of sport. In our new testimonial video, he shares how those roots inform his philosophy today: let the athlete move, control the variables that block movement (pain, swelling, and lymphatic congestion), and use tools that are effective, fast, and reproducible. That mindset led him to H-Wave in the early 1990s, and he’s used it ever since.
Early in the video, Arnie recounts a knee case that hooked him: after a grade-1 MCL injury, he combined H-Wave for pain and congestion and saw the athlete back on court in two to three days. From there, he explains why H-Wave rose above other modalities in a pro-sports environment where outcomes must be immediate and repeatable. The device’s dual high- and low-frequency settings help him manage pain, improve circulation, and promote lymphatic drainage while keeping athletes moving – on the table, on the plane, in the hotel, and even immediately post-op. He describes H-Wave as simple to teach, easy for players to self-manage, and powerful enough to integrate across scenarios: post-surgical recovery, acute tweaks, and the routine “micro-injuries” of playoff basketball.
Arnie also pulls back the curtain on real-world return-to-play decisions. He talks about getting athletes from hobbling to efficient gait quickly because once walking normalizes, the rest of the movement ladder follows. One standout anecdote: with the right plan and H-Wave in the mix, even a grade-2 ankle sprain can sometimes return in four days – an eye-opening claim that underscores how improved circulation and pain modulation accelerate function. He reflects on a championship run with the Pistons where no player missed a finals game, crediting consistent H-Wave use pre-game, post-game, and at home. Two decades later, many of those same players still call him to ask, “What was that device again?”
Importantly, Arnie’s story goes beyond the NBA. He shares how H-Wave helped professional musicians manage wrist, elbow, shoulder, and neck issues so they could perform pain-free on tour. He’s seen athletes bring units home for family members because feeling better shouldn’t be limited to professionals. Throughout the video, he emphasizes the psycho-emotional side of injury: pain erodes confidence, and a modality that reliably calms pain and swelling can restore trust in movement. That, he says, is the real game-changer – building belief alongside biology.
If you’re a trainer or PT on the fence, Arnie’s advice is refreshingly direct: “Do it.” Try H-Wave, then use it more. In his words, the “proof is in the pudding” – three decades of consistent outcomes without needing to chase “new and improved.” Watch the full testimonial to see how a long-time NBA trainer weaves simple, reproducible tools into high-performance care, and why H-Wave remains a cornerstone of his approach to faster, safer returns to sport – and to life.
